[Mission 3] Briefing
The repairs to Kharos' vessel move smoothly and ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, by Inquisitorial decree, Kharos is planet bound. No matter the argument, Kharos refuses to leave without clearance from the inquisition.
Ordo Malleus arrives a day later. A new marine (identity left to be created) arrives with them, straight from Erioch. He finds you, with ease, and delivers to you ammunition and grenades. "By order of Watch Captain Kasblane you are to function on your own purview as a kill marine until called for by him. I am to accompany you."
At the same time, thousands of Ordo Malleus strom troopers swarm the planet, hunting for further taint. Inquisitors examine the population. Hundreds are executed, until the planet is pronounced clean of taint. All told more died at the hands of the Inquisition than died at the hands of Nurgle.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC: I believe my chapter premise is to hate the inquisition and vehemently oppose submitting to them. But carry on.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC- Most chapters feel that way. But Ordo Malleus is very not concerned with you, though your presence has been noted.
I will push the plot later, it might need to wait until I have finished the npc sidekicks

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC- update on potential companions:
Salamanders Devastator
Ultramarine Librarian
Fire Hawk Tactical
Black Templars Assault
I have the Dev done. He is pretty awesome. Libby almost done. He might be more awesome. Havent started tact or assault yet, but given their chapters they will be pretty epic too.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
The Ultramarine is large- or at least tall. He's not so wide as you, but there is depth to his eyes, testament to the things he has seen. Over his black deathwatch armour he wears a blue tabard with the sigil of the Librarium on it. He carries a large sword.
"I am Brother Achmedes," he addresses you. "We shall join together as kill marines."

"Well met brother. I'm am glad we have the hatred of Xenos in common."
OOC: where did he come from? What just happened? Last I recall it was purge of the hereticus time.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC- yep, moving right along. The briefing lasts for a while yet, but it is all material to the mission. Also, Ordo Malleus held Kharos on Cariss for 8 days. Wounds are fully healed and fate is replenished.
IC- The two of you board Kharos' vessel, and he is pleased with the honour of transporting two Astartes. Achmedes is shown a room and the chapel, and then joins you on the bridge, where a course is laid in for Erioch.
As the ship ascends the atmosphere, one of Kharos' bridge crew approaches with a dataslate. "Master, we have been monitoring the salvage wreck of the pirate vessel we encountered. It is doing strange things." The man hands Kharos a dataslate. He looks at it then orders, "get Aleksandre up here now!"
Kharos turns to you. "My lord, your expeetise is singular. Will you examine these readings?" Kharos offers you the dataslate.
OOC- if you agree roll tech-use with a +10 bonus on top of whatever other bonuses you apply.

Roll is 22. I have a total of +30 whatever that makes the roll translate to? I think that means 46+30 is my DC

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC- yeah your dc would be 76
IC- you examine the dataslate and several things become evident right away.
There are no life signs on the vessel, nor have there been since the Device was deployed.
The vessel has been systematically undergoing repairs and modifications.
There is a small particle anomaly - you know it is not human in origin - present in the vessel from before the device was deployed. The particle readings spike a day after the device kills everybody. It is now linked to all major systems.

"Techno heresy" Palus says aloud. "Brother Achmedes, I believe we must put an end to this madness."
"Lord Kharos, can you get a landing team into that ship? Assume it's defenses are fully operational."

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
"A single cutter could approach undetected, particularly if momentum were used instead of full propulsion..." Kharos answered.
"Permit me a few minutes to consult the augurs," Achmedes says. "It may reveal more of what we are up against. "
At that time Aleksandre arrives on the bridge. He grabs a dataslate and begins to examine it.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
Achmedes is silent for a moment as he focuses. The he lays a heavy hand on your pauldron, and is still for a few minutes. He murmurs something, but you cannot make out the words.
Then he speaks. "I see a blasphemous mix of man and machine. ..8 spider-like legs of metal, arms of flesh and steel. More than one man forced into a parody of power...I see lethal energy the hue of sick emerald. Beware its touch. This is what I see in your future..."
Achmedes shakes himself as the vision passes.
After a moment of quiet awe, Kharos asks "have either of you got experience in void combat or boarding actions?"
"I have not," Achmedes answers.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
Aleksandre speaks. "This vessel is too large to be destroyed from inside with charges. The most effective means of destruction would be an external barrage. However, if we open fire, that vessel has the capability to destroy us..."
Aleksandre paused. "If a boarding party manually destroyed the void shields, engines, and weapons batteries, it would be possible to destroy the ship with multiple volleys."

"We we have two soldiers who are experienced with combat. Who else will you send with the scalpel of the emperor to eliminate the enemies defense?" Palus asked Kharos.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
"How many do you want?" Kharos asked. "I can dispatch many."
"We also require life support systems to be restored," Aleksandre interjected. "If we dispatch humans and their armour is punctured they will not last long."

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
"Brother Maframe, I believe we will be most successful with fewer companions. Were we to bring soldiers we may become diverted in protecting them. Without such...entanglements...I believe we will be far more successful." Achmedes pauses for a moment. "However, the Explorator would be useful. He may fill a technical role, thereby freeing you considerable combat talents."

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC- you may choose to nominate extra objectives, for example, investigate the particle source/xenos tech.
Also, team leader is needed fir the purpose of oath making
IC- "Very well."

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
If permitted to use oath of knowledge I will lead. That will allow power rerolls for him and weapon bonuses for me.
I would like to destroy the entity, disable ship defences, discover any possible 'outbreaks' (the source of the xenos I suppose), and any effects this has had on existing imperium stuff other than taking over a ship and killing all it's people (ie on board geneseed, technical plans, weapons).
Decided to just roll with the stats and stuff I have. Not worth changing anything over.

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
OOC- you may use Oath of Knowledge. Doesn't to the Librarian any good since he is Sanctioned. For either character, useful should you encounter xenos. I might, however, recommend the Oath of the Weapon as being more effective for this particular mission. But do as you see fit.
For clarification- the people on the ship were killed by Aleksandre's Device; the ship became Silica Animus after that. While there is confirmation of xenos tech (in the particles detected) there is no confirmation of an entity.
Please correct my interpretation of your objectives above if I get them wrong
OBJECTIVES-
Primary-
--> Re-engage Life Support
--> Destroy Weapon systems
--> Destroy Shield systems
--> Destroy Engines
Secondary-
--> Investigate and if possible destroy, the source of Xenos corruption, including the "energy the hue of sick emerald"
--> Destroy the spider thing from Achmedes vision
Tertiary-
--> Make sure the taint hasn't/will not spread

Re: [Mission 3] Briefing
Ah. I didn't realise it was the same pirate ship. Well the entity is the weird spider thing. Perhaps destroy the emerald could be added to the list. Sure why not, the weapon oath.
